It's no secret that my principle and primary purpose for having a livejournal rests entirely on the shoulders of my own entertainment and the entertainment of others. While from time to time I drop extremely heavy content on here I am not someone who maintains a livejournal because he needs to write his feelings down in order to understand them, which is oddly enough why I started blogging back in 2001. I like discussion and meeting new people, as well as making puns, jokes and doing silly and amusing things for the benefit of other people (I do like to play the Foole from time to time.) I have met some wonderful people on here, as well as some terrible - and I continually get dragged into wonderful personal relationships, as well as good long distance friendships, drama and, of course, people's bullshit. Most of what I say here is with tongue firmly in cheek and with a grin on my face, and I dare anyone to actually back up any claim they may make that I am a bad guy. And I like it that way. Life is so full of wonder and joy and I like to add a little bit of sunshine to everyone's life as best I can...
But enough self-indulgent and pompous crap, I'll get to the point - one of the things with this journal that I take a great deal of pride in are my tags, of which there are 99. Each tag has a specific purpose and with these 99 tags I can describe and categorize everything that I post here, I need no more, but I suspect I could probably get away with less. In any event, since people regularly ask about the meaning of some of them I figured I'd continue with last year's exercise and go through the list and explain some of the more obscure ones. If only for fun.
I hope to eventually get through all 99 of them, but we all know that isn't likely to happen.
In no particular order...
(the) epic win: A little play on the internet meme phrase "epic win" this is a tag used primarily when I think something is of special importance or greatness, and should be noted as such. Either that or I'm a self-absorbed idiot. Or both.
a chance to use the word "caulk": Caulking is used to seal windows and doors as well as cracks and so on in the home, and I used to sell it, along with paint and stain at a big orange store back in Ottawa. Of course because we were all a bunch of immature fools my coworkers and I would attempt to work the word "caulk" into any conversation we possibly could, all the while appearing helpful and useful. Suffice it to say this tag is for my job, back in the day and is not used all that often anymore.
a-sworded fun: This tag is used whenever I describe the various sword fights I've been in during my life, and given that I am/was a fencer, this sort of thing happens enough to warrant its own tag.
forced alliteration: I use this tag whenever I alliterate more than once in an entry, and then again only when I'm proud of said sentence fragment. What can I say? I think alliteration requires a little bit of work to do well, and it noteworthy in that respect.
no eljay without ehjay: Several livejournal personalities have permeated my life in such a way as to require their own tags since mentioning them is noteworthy unto itself. This one belongs to
fleurdelista who is one of my oldest livejournal friends (at five years now) and stands as proof that you can meet people and have meaningful friendships over the internet. She is also fantastic, by the way.
phil's housing crisis: While I find fandoms, especially internet ones, not to my taste I do find that there are a number of television shows, etc that I do quite enjoy... and one of them is House. I love the show because I can relate to the character's grumpiness at times, but beyond that the characters are just so real, it's hard not to get caught up in their lives. And a time when I'm often more interested in fantasy than the day to day annoyances of my own life...well, it just works.
public speaking: This tag was used a long time ago when Livejournal still had a working phone post centre in Canada - I would post on a regular basis in an amusing and silly way, and all were well pleased.
mr and missus tink: This tag is used to describe another of my very close and wonderful friends (as well as her husband to be)
ifeverangelsbe. Strangely enough every time I copy and paste her livejournal name my computer changes its keyboard to Canadian French - I suspect witchcraft. In any case she was last year's person of the year and as such you can be sure I hold her in a very high degree. She is also adorable beyond measure.
That's it for now, I've got a dinner date to attend, but rest assured I'll write some more out when I get in.
Mmmm The Works.
